Was Golf Introduced in the U.S.A. Solely as a Means

Was golf introduced in the U.S.A. solely as a means by lazy employees to get a Friday afternoon off? You be the judge!
Perhaps .Perhaps not. What is the history of the spread of golf in the US ? The first notice of golf in America was in 1743 when 96 golf clubs and 432 golf balls were shipped from Leigh to Charleston, South Carolina. The apparent size and volume of this shipped golfing material was an obvious hint that golfing was alive and well at least in Charleston in the American South. . Savannah Georgia as well may have had an early rival golfing organization.
The first permanent golf club formed in the year of 1888. It occurred in Yonkers in the State of New York. The St. Andrew s Golf Club was formed by John Reid The Reid gang of golfers came to have the nickname of the Apple Tree Gang . Reid and his friends were exceptionally devoted to golf and its pursuits. Their first golfing course was laid out around a large old apple tree hence their nickname became The Apple Tree Gang . The moniker stuck/.
Many consider that Reid should be considered as The Founder of American Golfing while others would insist that Charles Blair Macdonald - a golf enthusiast, golfing writer and golf course architect deserves the honour. Macdonald, whom it is said can be said to be True Pioneer of The Game of American Golf , was the driving force behind the creation of the pivotal Chicago Golf Club, the first 18 hole golf course in the United States of America. This was in 1892 that Macdonald, the golf pioneer, was able to lay groundwork by convincing and persuading 30 Chicago business associates to pitch in the princely sum at the time of $ 10 apiece so that a nine hole golf could be constructed and developed. This golf site was to destined to become the prestigious and historic Downers Grove Golf Course. Later the next year an additional 9 holes were added to complete the first 18 hole golf course in America.
Macdonald, who had studied in Scotland at the St. Andrews University, is also credited with development of golf course architecture in the United States. Among the best known and recognized legacies is the National Golf Links course on Long Island, New York State, Along with that Macdonald left his mark by both assisting in and in creation of the USGA the United States Golf Association?
The USGA emerged in the wake of a dispute between the St. Andrew s Golf Club and the Newport Rhode Island Golfing Clubs. In the summertime of 1894 each team hosted an invitational golfing tournament, without the apparent knowledge of the other. Each prestigious golf club declared the winner of their tournament to be the National Amateur American Golf Champion of the United States. An unhappy loser of both golfing events- the golfing authority and mainstay McDonald himself, personally fueled the debate which went on to a loggerheads. The solution in the end was for Mr. Macdonald to arrange to be the driving force and organizer of an official golfing tournament - a major annual event that amazingly enough he somehow would administer. This administrative organization dreamt up and logistically laid in place by Macdonald emerged to become the United States Golfing Association which is now known by the shorter acronym USGA .
Can it be said that history of golf in the United States was solely an attempt by lazy employees to get a Friday afternoon off? You be the judge! Perhaps or perhaps not.

Arthritis, Joint Pain, Spondylitis, Fibromyalgia, Muscular Ache :Herbal Approach

Arthritis is one of the most common chronic diseases in the world. According to Ayurveda arthritis is primarily a vata (air) disease which is due to accumulation of toxins in the joints and is known as amavata. This can be caused by poor digestion and a weakened colon, resulting in the accumulation of undigested food and the buildup of waste matter. Poor digestion allows toxins to accumulate in the body, and problems with the colon allow the toxins to reach the joints. Symptoms : Fever Immense pain & stiffness in affected muscles in case of chronic muscular rheumatism. Pain or tenderness in a joint which is aggravated by any movement or activity, such as walking, getting up from a chair, writing, typing, holding an object, throwing a ball, turning a key. Excruciating pain and stiffness in the joints in case of chronic articular rheumatism.
The following are a few simple cures that might just help relieve you from the pain of arthritis. Try any of them to see what works for you.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) may be among the best-studied of the four. In an uncontrolled 1992 Danish study, 56 patients who had either RA, OA or muscular discomfort took powdered ginger. All of those with musculoskeletal pain and three-fourths of those with OA or RA reported varying degrees of pain relief and no side effects, even among those who took the ginger for more than two years. Advice:
Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate): Magnesium has both anti-inflammatory and anti- arthritic properties and it can be absorbed through the skin. Magnesium is one of the most important of the essential minerals in the body, and it is commonly deficient in the American diet. A New England remedy for arthritis is a hot bath of Epsom salts. The heat of the bath can increase circulation and reduce the swelling of arthritis.
Dosage and Directions: Fill a bathtub with water as hot as you can stand. Add 2 cups of Epsom salts. Bathe for thirty minutes, adding hot water as necessary to keep the temperature warm. Do this daily as often as you d like.

Exercise Tips -- Motivation May Not Be 1 Key

I help people all of the time with different problems when it comes to their workouts (and even life sometimes). Many of those times, these distinct problems are attributed to a much larger situation. I am a HUGE believer of getting to the source of a problem and NOT just treating symptoms.
Treating symptoms never lets the person understand what is actually going on and can be very self defeating. Imagine for a minute that you are allergic to peanut butter. Now, you love peanut butter so you get a medicine to let you eat peanut butter to your heart s content.
Of course, the medicine costs money and carries all sorts of side effects. Wouldn t it make more sense to just give up peanut butter? After all, it s the peanut butter that is the source of your problems. Taking the medicine is just an unnecessary step.
So, the best thing to do in most instances revolves around the source of a problem. But, for people trying to get in better shape, what are the primary problem sources? What exercise tips prove to really pay off?
Honestly, most of the underlying problems involve psychology and the way people perceive things. The leftover problems stem from either overflowing or faulty information.
Today, I want to go over motivation and why it might not necessarily be the 1st thing to focus on when beginning a new program.
Follow me here. (I ll get to the correlation at the end)
I think most people can relate to this.
You have an underperforming employee. Generally speaking, underperforming employees tend to fall into two categories -- those that need more training and those that have significant training but need to be motivated (I usually let these people go by the way as they tend to be a drain on the team).
Most of the time, an underperforming person gets lumped into the "I need motivation" category prematurely. However, looking further, we can see that our employee really just needs more training to ensure more confidence.
But, what do we do?
We say, "Oh, you just need to be more motivated" or "come on, just think about how much money you can make." Then, our "motivated" individual goes out, does a crappy job, gets discouraged, and then falls back into the same trap as before. It s a vicious cycle. (By the way, if you have an employee like this, chances are they need more training. It s a clear sign that you haven t been doing YOUR job, instead of them not doing theirs).
Think about it this way, if you have an idiot and you motivate them you don t get a lean, mean, employee: you ve got yourself a motivated idiot! Imagine what kind of destructive power that can have.
I ve digressed a little. What does this have to do with working out?
A LOT!
If you are doing all of the wrong things and you get more motivated (i.e. work harder, more weight, reps, intensity), you are going to trash your body, period.
Think about the motivated idiot.
Now, I m not saying to get into information overload by any means. The easiest thing to do would be to grab a magazine or two from the grocery store and start with a few of the workouts inside. That way, you don t have to worry about your plan and can actually GET MOTIVATED with the right information.
This is very important.
Now, if this does not sound appealing, put something together yourself and get it critiqued by a qualified individual before you start. You might have a great majority of it right and realize drastic improvements with a few small tweaks.
Search out reputable sources (don t "diet" Google) and follow their advice.
**IMPORTANT**
Do not pick 15 people to follow and mash all of their teachings together. Pick one and follow him/her only. When you try to put more than one system together, you not only diffuse the power of the system, you put yourself into potential information overload from all of the different "exercise tips".
Again, do some research and find one person to focus on. You ll see quicker results from your simple approach.
REMEMBER! Information overload = no results.
Moral of the story, get equipped with the right information from a singular source...
..and don t be a motivated idiot.

Special needs children learn language development and social skills in play

Learn to play with your special needs child to help language development and stimulate valuable social skills in autistic children
From experience, I know that developmental and educational toys alone are not enough to help a child with special needs. But, you can easily help your child learn through play. For example, blowing toys can help to overcome language delay or sensory toys to overcome touch reluctance in a child on the autistic spectrum.
Learning to Play Children do most of their learning through play so children with special needs can be instantly disadvantaged if their play skills are impaired. Children on the autistic spectrum often lack a natural interest in play and will need extra help to learn to play. The restricted social skills in autistic children and some other special needs children make it difficult for them to accept social interaction during play.
As a parent of a child with a severe language delay and a child with autism, I knew the importance of play and was particularly aware of the value of play based language development. However, I quickly realised that I too needed to learn to play. Merely presenting my special needs children with an array of toys was not sufficient to help develop their play and interactive skills. By spending even a few minutes playing with them, I was able to make a huge difference and felt much more confident in my own parenting skills.
Using developmental toys The first step in initiating play with a child with special needs is to gain your child s attention. Often they need to be attracted away from their solitary play or their favoured activity. This requires a toy that is of interest it does not have to be a specialist developmental toy.
Once you have your child s attention you then need to hold their interest long enough to give them enough of a chance to practise the activity and get to like it both of which will build confidence and eventually mean they will want to do it again. Peek a boo with a scarf, bubbles, balls, bean bags and puppets are very simple devices for attracting a child to join in with a game and can be started easily anywhere at any time.
Cause and effect toys for children with special needs I have found cause and effect toys are really good because a child will quickly learn that if he does one thing something else will happen press the button and a light comes on, or a character pops up or as with the Sound Puzzle Box where if a shape is correctly inserted into the right hole it makes a squeaky noise.
Ball or car ramps and pop up peg toys can be used to help queue in a child, who otherwise is reluctant to involve you in their play or to interact during play. Merely holding onto the car or ball at the top of the slope saying 1,2 3 GO but only letting go once your child looks at you accompanied with a big whoop is another good way of increasing your child s enjoyment as well as promoting interaction and eye contact.
Games to stimulate social skills, especially in autistic children Ball and car ramps are also very good for practising social skills such as turntaking and waiting, you may have to work hard to stop your child from grabbing the ball when its not his turn but doing these sorts of activities frequently can really help your child to wait and participate more willingly. These are just some ideas to help entice a child with special needs away from solitary play even for a short time initially and to help develop a desire to play.
How SenseToys aims to help parents and carers When my children s special needs were identified, I was amazed that I couldn t find a shop or mail order catalogue selling the kind of toys I wanted for my autistic son, Eddie. There were plenty of pre-school educational toys but I had to search high and low to find things that were suitable. I also needed some guidance on the best way to play with them to help Eddie. It is all very well having special toys but if you don t know what to do with them or how to engage your child it is not much use. It is not the toy, it is what you do with it that gives it value for an autistic child. The aim of the SenseToys website is to bring you colourful, fun toys and lots of inspiring ideas for how to play with them with your special needs child.
